Dallas,
Texas Nursing Home Negligence Attorneys
An
unfortunate fact of life is that many of us
cannot care for ourselves as we age. Our loved
ones have to make difficult decisions about our
healthcare, and they may seek professional help
from nursing homes, personal care facilities,
retirement homes, or assisted living facilities.
Those facilities are meant to provide elderly
people with a safe, caring and comfortable
residence during the final stages of life.
Although
the majority of nursing homes do an adequate
job, lapses in care are all too common. Some
lapses are so serious that they constitute
actionable negligence.
If you
believe that your loved one has suffered an
injury or a decline in their condition due to
the care they have received at a nursing home,
immediately contact the nursing home abuse and
neglect attorneys of Kraft & Associates. We
can help elderly residents of nursing homes
in numerous Texas
locations, including Dallas County, Tarrant
County, Denton County, Fort Worth, Arlington,
Grand Prairie, Mesquite, Carrollton, Hurst,
Grapevine and Rockwall. For a free assessment,

Abuse and
neglect in our nation's nursing homes is
widespread, according to a September 2008 study
by the U.S. Department of Health and Human
Services. That agency found that 90 percent of
nursing homes had been cited for violations of
federal health and safety standards in 2007.
About one in every five complaints verified by
federal or state officials involved patient
abuse or neglect. For-profit homes were
more likely to have problems than other types of
facilities.
Examples of
nursing home abuse and neglect include:
-
Physical abuse
-
Misuse of
restraints – including use of physical
restraints or sedatives to control a
"difficult" patient
-
Verbal or
emotional abuse
-
Physical
neglect, including a disregard for the
necessities of daily living
-
Medical
neglect, including a failure to provide
medical care or the assistance of a
physician
-
Verbal or
emotional neglect, including a disregard of
patient wishes and restricted contact with
family and friends
-
Personal
property theft or misuse
Nursing home
patients may not be able to communicate about
abuse or may be afraid to do so. Thus, people
who have loved ones in nursing homes must be
alert to any telltale signs. You should be
concerned if a nursing home patient has
unexplained bruises, burns, cuts, sprains,
fractures or genital infections. You should also
be concerned if the staff refuses to allow
visitors to see a resident or does not allow
visitors to be alone with their loved one.
