Fort
Worth, Texas is a thriving and thrilling
metropolitan city, with its own distinctly
unique character. Consistently ranked among the
best places to live, work or visit in the
nation, Fort Worth has even received designation
as one of America's Most
Livable Cities.
Census 2000 counted Fort Worth's population
as being over half a million. Combined with the
neighboring city of Dallas,
the Metroplex
region is bursting with growth and prosperity. A
center for aviation, oil and defense industries,
manufacturing and technology, the Dallas-Ft.
Worth Metro area serves as the commercial and
financial hub for the entire north-central
region of Texas.
Its reputation as being such a unique city
brings in over 7.5 million visitors a year. The
tourist trade earns over 900 million dollars
annually, adding to the city's dynamic economic
strength.
Fort Worth's markedly Western flavor creates
a fun and exciting atmosphere. While Dallas
prides itself on its sophistication, Fort Worth
prides itself on its Texan heritage and
cowboy-like charm. The historic Stockyards
District gets lively every morning, as
fifteen Texas longhorn steers are driven through
the streets by real cowhands, appropriately
dressed for the occasion. Fort Worth remembers
its roots in the cattle industry, and the time
when the city was called Cowtown.
Fort Worth honors their women, with the National
Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. It remains
the only museum of its type in the nation. The Cattle
Raisers Museum is also found here, where the
rich history of the Wild West is carefully
preserved. There is even a National
Cowboys of Color Museum.
Fort Worth is not just about cowboys though.
Three fine art museums and the enchanting Japanese
Botanical Gardens grace this fine city. The Bass
Performance Hall is rated 'one of the top
ten opera houses in the world' by Travel &
Leisure Magazine. It is also the permanent home
of the Fort
Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Texas
Ballet Theater Troupe, and hosts the Van
Cliburn International Piano Competition.
Shopping
has evolved into its own art form in this
prosperous city, and Fort Worth offers ten
different malls and retail districts. For true
Texan atmosphere, the Stockyard
Station and Traders
Village provide it. Sundance
Square holds the finest in retail boutiques,
as well as some of the best dining in town. For
more traditional Western fun, Billy Bob's is a
must-see. The world's largest honky tonk, Billy
Bob's contains twenty-five separate bars and
restaurants, an indoor rodeo arena with
bull-riding every Friday night, as well as
hosting some of the finest in country music
concerts.
Fort Worth is a delightful mixture of modern
prosperity and technology, accented by a rugged
Western charm. It is a wonderful place to work,
live or just have fun.
